My dear friend, Kate Spencer, is a highly regarded and very well known painter from the West Indies.

 

For the first time, Kate came to visit me in Hawke's Bay in May 2009. She was completely captivated by the light, scenery and texture of the countryside. It gave her the most amazing inspiration and immediately set to work in the Cape South Studio creating a whole series of local works.

 

These new works are now on display around the various Cape South walls. It is also complemented by a selection of her Caribbean work - providing an amazing contrast, but all demonstrating her exceptional use of colour and deeply symbolic imagery. Kate's paintings depict landscapes, still lifes and portraits - all with her characteristic style of eclectic realism.

Kate Spencer was born in Harrogate UK, studied art in London and Florence and has been painting since the 1970s in her stunningly picturesque studio in St Kitts, West Indies. She has run immensely successful galleries in St Kitts, Nevis, St Barts and Antigua. Her work is prominent in many international collections and she has exhibited in Barbados, Jamaica and the Virgin Islands.
